Aluminium Scraps and Cuttings De-Coating System

Donau Carbon SpA is able to provide aluminium scraps and cuttings (chips) thermal de-coating and cleaning to integrate and carry out an efficient aluminium smelting process down-stream in the Foundry.
On this specific regard, Donau Carbon SpA has implemented on turn-key basis complete systems, including commissioning and start-up activities.

Process description
The dirty aluminium scraps normally include grease, oil, paints, other organic substances like rubber, plastics, etc. and have a certain degree of moisture content.
The scraps are introduced in a rotary drum (special design and shape) and heated by means of hot gas in a controlled atmosphere (pyrolysis process by direct heating).
The high temperature of gas achieves the gasification in the drum of the organic matters from the scraps.
The block diagram shows our “Pyrolysis” treatment process.

The belt conveyor H-01 feeds the aluminium scraps in the rotary drum F-01, through the sealed valve H-02.
The material is heated in counter-current with hot gases.
The high temperature flow removes the organic material from the surface of scraps along their path inside the rotary drum.
Scraps are then discharged through the sealed valve H-04 and cooled down-stream before handling and storage.
The heating gases enter the rotary drum at a temperature of 500÷600°C under controlled O
2 content conditions and leave it at 220÷260°C.
The organic materials removed from the scraps are burned in a post combustion chamber F-02 (850°C) and combustion gases are partially recycled to the rotary drum after cooling by means of the air-gas exchanger E-01, which provides also a heat recovery by pre-heating the combustion air of the natural gas burner.
The gas overflow are sent to the atmosphere after the gas cleaning system.
